The Good
Rita Ora in Vera Wang -YAAS. QUEEN. SLAYYY. And all those other over used words for when you really are feeling something. This is exactly what I envision for the Met Gala. And she is killing it. She always makes interesting choices, not always to my taste, but in this case she nailed it. It may not have necessarily fit the theme, but it sure is pretty. And it is metallic!Emma Roberts in Tory Burch - Love this dress. Very much my aesthetic right now. The ombre purple feels very fresh and I love the texture. Initially I thought it was fringe, but its really just creped!
Katy Perry in Prada - Love the drama. Love the strength. Love everything. Except the hair. Hate the hair.
Anna Wintour in Chanel - You have to expect her to dress well, but I really love this cream and fringe Chanel dress. She is working it so hard, and so effortlessly. Exactly as the Queen of the Fashion world should be. It kind of reminds me of a lamp my Nanny had. I loved that lamp.
Demi Lovato in Moschino - Classic silhouette with a modern twist. Love the dramatic color combination and textures. Demi always is fierce.
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace - Architecturally this was probably my favorite of the night, and it feels very machina. Or perhaps a little Transformer. I kind of wish someone else was wearing it though. It doesn't feel very Kate to me.
Nicole Kidman in Valentino - I'm over the moon for this one.
Bella Hadid in Givenchy - I'm not a fan of her, but that dress just oozes the sophistication and glamour of the past. Not crazy about the shoe choice though.
LaLa Anthony in Nicolas Jebran - Love the structure and drama of this dress. But what is up with her boob?
Adriana Lima in Giambattista Valli - I am crazy for a tea length and 50's silhouette. She looks classy, beautiful, and comfortable! It may be completely inappropriate theme-wise, but who cares?
The Bad
Madonna in Givenchy - Trying way too hard to stay relevant. Why don't you shock us all by wearing something classy for once?
Sarah Jessica Parker in Monse- What? Did she know she was coming here? It looks like she just went for a run and then threw on a pirate's blazer and some heels.
Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton - Weird cut and length. Just ugly all over. And pairing it with those boots...no.
Solange Knowles in David Laport - She is always kind of hit or miss, but in this case - it's a big miss. All I can see is yellow cupcake liners. I am not even kidding when I say that Satina has two designs she made hanging in her room that look the same - but better. Except she actually used cupcake liners. I do kind of like the shoes though. They remind me of the beloved stirrup pants of my youth. But not as comfortable I'm sure.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton - Where did she even come from? Where is the rest of her? Her head looks huge and why would she wear that?! What is it? It sort of reminds me of Jane Jetson but ugly.
Lily-Rose Depp in Chanel - She looks sad, old and dated. She's only 16! Who did this to her?Her hair is terrible. She looks kind of like Helena Bonham Carter.
The Underwhelming
Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein - Prom anyone? Seafoam Green?! This just looks basic to me. And she's channeling a Dr. Seuss character with that hair. She's usually better than this.
Elle Fanning in Thakoon - Not bad just too simple, especially for the venue. It is very 90's, but not in a new or interesting way. The genie hair works though.
Uma Thurman in Tommy Hilfiger -Lupita was at Prom, and Uma is someone's (dull, unimaginative) bridesmaid. This looks like a dress you could buy off the rack in a David's Bridal.
So there you have it, the highs and lows of the 2016 Met Gala in my humble opinion. Who was your favorite? Do you agree with my choices?
