Gorgon's Price by Claire Davon - Bookin' It With Jen

4 Stars

This book has a lot going for it. First off, the cover is stunning, no wonder men would die for a look at a Gorgon! Secondly I really enjoyed that there were so many various mythologies and religions from around the world represented as equals, and the way that the pantheons interacted with one another and humanity. Third it felt like the author is pretty knowledgeable about all these myths and stories. Because of that the story felt really seamless and flowed well, nothing felt forced. Well almost nothing, which brings us to the cons of the book and why I had to dock a star. The sex scenes and chemistry between Euryale and Asher were pretty bad. I appreciate that the expedited timelines for a love story goes along with Greek mythology but to me it felt strange, almost like if Disney had tried to add sex scenes to their version of Hercules. I didn't care for the way those were written at all. Way too many instant orgasms. The only other thing that I didn't love about the way this book is written is how the author chose not to disclose what they learned from the Gods on their journey, I know she did it that way in order to preserve the mystery of  'whodunit' but it made for some pretty pointless travel scenes and interactions with deities for us, the readers. Otherwise great story! I would be interested in continuing with the series.

I chose to read this book to complete a prompt on the MBC Book Challenge for mythological creatures, and boy did it deliver! Gorgons, banshees, animal shifters, demons, fae of all sorts and more were found in the pages of this one.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book to review. All opinons are my own.
