Drawing Challenge

Hi all :) A while back a started, and then almost immediately abandoned a 30 day drawing challenge. Pretty typical of me haha. Anyway, I have decided to pick up where I left off and thus will be posting here. Here are all the ones I have done to date, including the one for today. Also, as you will see it is my SIX month anniversary of being soda free. I am so happy!

Here is the challenge:
found on pinterest!

Here are my (crappy haha) drawings thus far. I am not going in order of the list.
Day 1: Yourself
Day 2: Favorite Animal (mine at the time)
 Day 3: Favorite Food
 Pickles and pudding. OH YEAH.

Day 12: Most Recent Accomplishment

Anyways thats it for me! Until next time :)

Happy Ash Wednesday. It doesn't mean much to me, because I am not particularly religious but I have decided this year to give up something for Lent. Of course I decided the other day that it would be a good idea, but didn't pay any attention to when Lent actually started haha so by the time I realized that today was the beginning I had already lost! I ate a few candy hearts this morning..oops. Oh well I figure my day doesn't typically start until noon or so anyway so I won't count it. I am giving up candy, cookies, snack cakes/cakes and ice cream. I eat these things quite frequently so its going to be a challenge but I am sure I will feel so good after all is said and done. I am starting today (at noon lol) and going through the Saturday before Easter. Wish me luck!

Wish me luck! Are you giving anything up?

Happy Birthday Satina

You've come a long way, baby :)

In her incubator, weighing a little more than three pounds, too small for preemie and cabbage patch doll clothes.

I just can't believe you are six years old today!

Today Was A Milestone For Me :)

                 (source)
Hi all, as you know I have given up soda. It initally started out as a thirty day challenge for the month of November, but on December first I just couldn't make myself stop. I am happy to say that today is my 100th day of being absolutely soda free. All I drink is water now.

It's amazing! :)
Just to reiterate

Okay, I think you get the idea. I am so happy! It's been pretty easy so far, although I have had three dreams in which I drank soda and immediately freaked out after lol. My brain is guilting me! Anyways, the current goal is to make it to Easter at which point I will extend it further :) I will keep ya updated, and you can track my progress on the calendar on the sidebar! How are your resolutions going?

Back After A Forced Hiatus.

Hi all :) My computer called in sick BIG TIME this past week. Sorry!!

Last night I decided to try out the mud mask that's been sitting in the cabinet for the past three months. I have never used one before, not for lack of trying but all my past attempts have been foiled by those clear easy peel pretenders. I was pretty excited about it and got to really slathering it on. Somewhere around the midpoint of application I had the brilliant idea to use it to be a plastic soldier for Halloween next year. That thought has since been amended. Anyway so I slathered the stuff on and was feeling all glamorous and thought hey! I should totally put some cucumbers on my eyes. Then I realized two things a) I was cold and my refrigerator all but freezes its contents and b) it is awfully hard to watch a movie with your eyes covered. (I Am Number Four, good movie great book). It's just as well because it was right about that time that I caught sight of myself in the mirror and went from feeling that I looked like this:
To feeling as if I fell into this:
A huge pile of steamy triceratops poop. Glamour gone. Oh well, I went ahead and started watching my movie as the mask did its thing. The package said to allow it to dry for 10 minutes but it was more like 25 minutes later that I realized I should probably take the thing off. It only occurred to me then because it had pulled so tight in drying that I could no longer close my mouth all the way. So I headed into the bathroom only to discover that my face was no longer my own but more like the mask in THE MASK (I love that movie btw). Of course being the irrational being that I am I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to remove it and that it would take over me as it does in the movie. Now that I think of it, Jim had a lot of fun. Maybe that wouldn't have been so bad after all. I digress. So I start washing the thing off and not in that graceful face wash commercial way either. I tried splashing my face and all that happened was poopy green-brown water/sludge ran all over my face, neck and chest as well as every clear bathroom surface around. But I finally got it off and excitedly checked my skin in the mirror to find...awful red blotchiness. Not exactly the results I was hoping for. Sigh. However after I finished watching my movie I looked again and aha! my face looked MUCH better. I thought it may have been wishful thinking but I have checked several times today and it still looks pretty good. It was quite a journey but when all is said and done, I am glad that I tried it out because it was (almost) totally worth it. Next time I will apply before I get in the shower to avoid the splash fiasco.

ps. If you google cucumber eyes you and scan through the pages it gets kind of creepy. The people go from relaxation seekers to human-fly hybrids out for your soul.
pps. No Soda November is going great! 15 days free :)
ppps.Today I am thankful to have my computer back in working order. I would die without my little pink netbook!!

Hi all :) Things are going decent here, all is well on the water front.  We had Satina's picture taken with Santa today so expect to see the picture soon! Its crazy how quickly this year has flown by. A sign of old age I am told. Oh well. Anyway nothing amazing to share so I thought I would show you my eotd since its been ages since I have.

Just a simple pink and gray, but it was nice to break up all the neutrals I have been wearing.

Today I am thankful for my family. I never get to see them anymore but just knowing that they are there and happy and prospering makes me the happiest person alive. I love them all more than they could ever possibly know. I am so fortunate to be part of a family so close knit. I would be lying if I didn't say I am a little homesick but I definitely dont see myself moving back to Texas anytime soon.

No Shave November Is SO Cliche.

But that doesn't mean that I won't be participating. ;) lol.

I am from Texas. Waco to be exact, where Dr. Pepper is regarded as a gift from the gods and drank like water. You can't blame us, its the best soda EVER. Sugary, caffeine-y, goodness. Mmmm. It's my own personal brand of heroin. I am sure that if Edward Cullen had been introduced then he wouldn't have given Bella a second glance. I digress. The point is, I am addicted. We (being the family and I) average around two 2 liters a day. Thats grossly unhealthy and horribly expensive. So yeah, I have decided that I need to break the habit. Introducing No Soda November*, my goal is to be soda free for at least 21 days this month. Ideally consecutively, as they say that it takes 21 days to make it a habit. It is all part of a larger, more masterful plan to get somewhat healthier and seemed like a logical starting point. So wish me luck and feel free to join in as well!! I saw this neato (read: terrifying) poster about the potential impact of soda to your health. If thats not motivating, I don't know what is! Surely not the way my head is POUNDING from lack of caffeine or the way I have to pee every thirty minutes from the water I am drinking. lol. Wish me luck friends!

*I am not dumb enough to believe that I won't drink some Dr. Pepper on Thanksgiving, lets get real here.

ETA:
Its November, so I along with many other internet addicts, will be sharing one thing each day that I am thankful for.

I am thankful that no matter how desperate matters seem, it always works out in the end.

White Halloween Face Paint Is The Devil

Hi all :)

As the title suggests, last night I went round and round with a tube of white face paint and  eventually lost. That crap is HORRIBLE. I was going to use it to make myself paler than I naturally am so that I could do a dia de los muertos sugar skull makeup look. I successfully covered my brows using a glue stick (for the first time!) but when I applied that white paint it flaked, and rolled and was all around awful. Luckily the nickname of albino that I was given in college was for a reason and I was able to pull off the look without using it. I think it looks pretty cool, and I am considering doing it again tomorrow, perhaps in another color. I did this around 3 am and was a little worried about sleeping in it, but it held up PERFECTLY. Not a single smudge. I was so excited! Tonight when we went to the fall festival at a local church everyone was totally impressed and couldn't help commenting on it. One sweet little girl stopped in the midst of an inflatable obstacle course to come over to the side and tell me I looked pretty. I can dig! lol.

Just outlined what I thought it should be, and got to it.
 Finished product. Not too bad?
In Sepia, for fun. I like it.

Satina had never seen sugar skulls prior to this and she BEGGED to be that for Halloween instead of Lalaloopsy, which was all her idea to begin with. She was appeased with being told that not next year but the one after she can dress for Dia De Los Muertos. What are you guys being/doing for Halloween?

Hi all :) I have neglected this  a bit the past week, but I have been and continue to be busy with Halloween preparations. I cannot believe its in four days! We don't even have a pumpkin yet! We are getting one tomorrow though.  We still haven't finished Satina's costume. Heck I don't even have a costume idea for myself or an idea of where to go. This Halloween will be a failure I think haha. Yet I did manage to create some pretty adorable treats for Satina's kindergarten class and teacher. We took them in today and they LOVED them. It was so cute! Oohing and aahing and shouting with excitement. I love little kids. Anyway, the ideas were found on pinterest, and executed accordingly with only a single set back. Originally we were going to make tissue paper pumpkins to be the treat bags, but when all was said and done..EEW. They looked like lumpy fluorescent garlic. Not appealing. Thankfully we got some adorable Frankenstein bags at the Dollar Tree last minute!
Tootsie Pop Spiders. Super cute.
The blue were my favorites. Pretty and poseable!
Chocolate Bar Ghost. Bats were made also and were ADORABLE. Template .
Bats, Ghosts and Mummy Juice Boxes
Mrs. Cloud's basket. Everything the kids had too. Candy bar ghosts and bats, spiders, mummy juice box, pencils, erasers, bubbles and treat bag full of candy :)
All wrapped up! I think its pretty cute, and she seemed really impressed too!

On top of it being the week before Halloween, its also a four day week and drug free/spirit week at Satina's school. They had red day(monday), on which she looked SUPER cute, like a little cheerleader. Tuesday was camo day, wednesday was pajama day and today was jersey/sports team day. Of course I forgot to take pictures everyday but today, which for me is practically tragic! I need those for her kindergarten scrap book. Maybe I will make her recreate the days. Wacko. Anyway, here she is in her baby blue Jacksonville Jaguars jersey, blue and white striped leggings and a blue and white gingham bow. She looked really cute!

Procrastination Nation

Hi all :) I fully intended to make a post today with a Halloween makeup look, but unfortunately laziness won over and I didn't get around to doing the look today. ha! Maybe Monday! All I did today was sit around and catch up on all the episodes thus far of season 3 of The Sing Off . I LOVE this show, I only was able to watch about half of season 1 and somehow missed season 2 all together, but when I can watch it, man am I in love. I swoon. Acapella at its finest. There is some SERIOUS competition this year too! Not to mention Nick Lachey is the host and while I sort of hate him because of the Jessica Simpson thing, hes still good looking. And the judges!! Two words, SHAWN STOCKMAN. As in Boys II Men. Holy Crappola. Hes handsome and an amazing singer. Sigh. Oh and Ben Folds and Sara Bareilles round out the trio. I like them but they ain't got nothing on Shawn ;) My favorites so far are (in alphabetical order not preferred):

  •  Afro-Blue - Honestly, I liked them but didn't LOVE them until they covered and completely flipped Estelle's American Boy (see below). It rocked me, and it was amazing.
  • North Shore - Traditional duwop. Exactly what it sounds like, classic and perfection. I think they are going to do well.
  • Pentatonix - One of my top two. You would never ever expect them to sound/perform like you do. Love them. Hope they go all the way to the finals.
  • Urban Method - Apparently Denver has a strong music scene. Who knew? These guys are really good, and their rap-apella sets them apart. And dude who raps (forgot his name!) is super hot. BONUS!
  • Vocal Point - 9 guys from Brigham-Young. One is an Aussie. All are amazing. I never thought Mormons were so fun! My top favorite.
If you haven't watched it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? You can watch all the episodes on NBC.

26

Well yesterday I turned the big 2-6. Finally crossed into the second quarter of life. Maybe I will get out of this quarter life crisis now? Probably not, knowing me! Oh well. So yesterday, for my birthday, the family and I went to the Buddhist temple up the street from my house, and then checked out the GORGEOUS Wekiwa Springs. There was chinese food between these two places, but man mediocre chinese is mediocre. I mean, how can you possibly mess up rice noodles? How can you say you have no green beans when you are snapping them two tables over. Sadness. Ugh enough with that mess of a distraction, onto the pictures!
